Cheery Cherry Chocolate Kiss Cookies

And speaking of those tempting cookies calling out for me to eat them... this would be one of the louder ones.  Off to the freezer it went. And off to a cookie exchange.

These are delicious, a perfect addition to your holiday cookie list.

Cheery Cherry Kiss Cookies
Buy a good brand of Maraschino cherries, it does make a difference in flavor.

1 bag of Hershey Kisses (plain or cherry flavored), unwrapped
1/2 cup chopped Maraschino cherries
2 teaspoons Maraschino cherry juice
1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring
1/4 teaspoon cherry flavoring (optional)
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 cup butter

Beat butter and sugar together with cherry flavoring, almond flavoring and cherry juice. Beat until it is light and fluffy.  Add in salt. Mix.  Add in flour and mix just enough to combine.  Gently mix in chopped cherries.

Roll into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet.  Flatten a little with a glass cup.  Bake for 14 minutes in a 325F oven.  Remove from oven and immediately place kisses in center, pushing down a little.  If you go slow they wont crack as you put the kiss in.  Remove from baking sheet to cooling rack.  Let cool completely before you put away. The kisses will be soft for quite a while.
